Privacy policy
Version of 7 October 2026.
In short
Peekwick collects as little as possible. No account to create, no email address, no ads, no audience tracking, no selling of data. Your location stays on your phone. Children publish nothing, and nothing makes it possible to recognise them: only their age may appear next to a family's review.
Who is responsible
Data is processed by the publisher of Peekwick, presented in the legal notice (peekwick.com/legal-notice). For any question: contact@peekwick.com.
Your family in Peekwick
There is no email address, no password, and no Apple or Google sign-in. On first use, the phone receives a randomly generated identifier and secret key. We only keep a fingerprint of that key. To bring a family's phones together, a parent shows a 6-digit code, valid for 2 minutes, which the other phone types in or reads as a QR code.
What we receive and keep
- The family's phones: for each one, the model (for example "Pixel 8"), its role (parent or children) and the date of its last connection.
- What the family has done in each city: places ticked as visited, stamps earned, and the current stay (month, year, children present, and whether it was confirmed by the phone's location or declared). This is what lets all of the family's phones show the same thing.
- The profile, only if a parent fills it in to contribute: the initial of the family name, and for each child the month and year of birth. Never a first name, never a full name.
- Contributions: reviews, tips, questions, answers, errors reported in a place page, suggested anecdotes. With each one: the city, the place, the signature (for example "M. family"), the language, and for reviews, tips and answers, the children's ages and the month of the stay.
- "Helpful" votes and reports on contributions, with the reason chosen.
- Purchases: the platform (Google Play or App Store), the product bought, the city, the verification status and the purchase token provided by the platform. We never see your payment identity, your Google or Apple account, or your payment method.
- Technical logs: like any online service, our providers see the IP address of requests and keep a technical record of it for a short time.
What stays on your phone
- Your location: it is used, on the phone only, to sort places by distance, to know that you are in a city, and to alert you near a place if you asked for that. It is only used while the app is open, and is never sent. Only the stay (month and year) is sent, as described above.
- Your settings, the point where each story stopped, the "Our memory" sentences, the countries marked on the globe, the families you have hidden, and the cities you have downloaded.
- No photos: the app does not access your photos or your camera. The keepsake map you can share is drawn on the phone and goes through the system's share menu.
What is published
Published contributions are visible to other families, with their signature ("M. family", or "A family" if the profile is not filled in), the children's ages at the time of the stay and the month of the stay. To recognise contributions from the same family, a technical pseudonym is used. It does not let anyone trace back to your family. Contributions are never shown on the children's phone.
Why, and on what basis
- Running the app, the family, purchases and the audio guide: this is performing the service you use.
- Publishing, translating and moderating contributions: this is our legitimate interest in offering content that is useful, reliable and safe for families.
- Keeping proof of a purchase, even after the account is deleted: this is our obligation to be able to justify a sale, and our legitimate interest in handling a refund or fraud.
- Using location on the phone: with your consent, given to the phone's system, which you can withdraw at any time in the settings of the app or the phone.
Our providers
They only use your data to provide their service to us:
- Supabase (database and server functions): data hosted in Paris, France. Supabase, Inc. is a US company. Any access from outside the European Union is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
- Cloudflare R2 (city files, place photos and audio stories): files are sent directly to your phone, which shares your IP address. Cloudflare, Inc. is a US company, covered by the same clauses.
- Google Play (payment and verification of purchases on Android): we ask Google whether a purchase token is valid. The payment itself is made with Google, under its terms.
- DeepL (translation of contributions between French and English): DeepL SE, in Germany. The text of each contribution is sent to it, without name, signature or identifier.
- OpenFreeMap (base maps): Hyperknot Software Kft., in Hungary. Your phone asks it for the map tiles of the area shown, which shares your IP address.
How long
- Phones, profile, visited places, stamps, stays, contributions, votes and reports: until the account is deleted, or earlier if you delete them yourself.
- Pairing codes: 2 minutes.
- Purchases: proof of purchase is kept after the account is deleted, detached from the family, for 10 years, the retention period for accounting records in France.
Your rights
You can at any time, in the app (Settings, The family's phones):
- view and correct your profile and your contributions (My contributions);
- download your data (Download my data): a file with everything we keep about your family, contributions included;
- delete your account (Delete my account): the family, its phones, its profile, its stays, its visited places, its stamps, its contributions, its votes and its reports are permanently erased. The steps are also on peekwick.com/delete-account.
You can also ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your data, or object to a processing, by writing to contact@peekwick.com. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can contact the CNIL (cnil.fr), the French data protection authority.
Children
Peekwick is made to be used by families, under the responsibility of parents. Children publish nothing, and the children's phone shows no purchase, no external link and no content published by other families. We keep only their month and year of birth, entered by a parent.
Security
Communications are encrypted. Phone keys are kept only as a fingerprint. The stories of the purchased audio guide go through links valid for one hour, issued after the purchase is verified.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at peekwick.com/privacy, and the app will tell you before any important change applies.
